It started with a book…
At first, it was a book telling the stories of 14 companies focused on the key attributes that make small and medium non-public companies successful.
And though it garnered attention across the globe and was published in multiple languages, there was something more to be discovered in Small Giants: Companies That Choose to Be Great Instead of Big.
The book’s author, Bo Burlingham, realized that the key attributes these companies focused on added up to something special. A combination that enabled them to be defined by who they were, not how big they could get. Something he called…
“Mojo” |
That became a community…
After the book’s publication in 2006, Bo recognized that many more companies could be considered Small Giants, and that even more companies aspired to work by the same ideals that defined each of the original Small Giants companies.
But where and how could someone learn, share and experience this business “mojo?”
How could someone become (or continue to be) a Small Giant?
There needed to be a place where like-minded businesspeople – those that had “mojo” to share and those who wanted to capture those attributes for their own business could come together.
June 2009 -- The Small Giants Community was born. |
Who had some goals in mind…
Becoming a Small Giant is about more than just the business plan or the financials. It is the behaviors that allow us to be real and connected with our employees, our stakeholders and our community in a non-traditional sense. It’s about being more than a big company. It’s about the cultures of excellence, values and businesses practices, that when combined, make the workplace (and in turn, the lives of people) better.
Through the Community, members will share the resources, experiences, ideas and challenges that lead them to conduct business for more than just the bottom line.
We hope you’ll join us… |
